| Turner
A. “Tab” Blackburn earned his BS in Education, MEd in Guidance
and Counseling, and his National Athletic Trainers Association Board of
Certification at the University of Virginia. The Medical College of Virginia
awarded his physical therapy degree. Tab worked for 18 years at the Hughston
Sports Medicine Center at the Human Performance and Rehabilitation Center/Rehabilitation
Services of Columbus in Columbus, Georgia. He is a founding member of the
Berkshire Institute of Orthopedic and Sports Medicine, Teton Physical Therapy
and the North American Sports Medicine Institute. A highlight in Tab’s
sports medicine career was serving the sports medicine team at the 1996
Olympics in Atlanta at the Sports Center and Track and Field. Tab has served
as past president, treasurer, and secretary of the Sports Section of the
American Physical Therapy Association and as interim president of the Georgia
State Board of Physical Therapy in 1993. He is a member of the American
College of Sports Medicine and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports
Medicine where he serves as a guest reviewer for the American Journal of
Sports Medicine. Tab is also a reviewer for the Journal of Orthopedic and
Sports Physical Therapy and the Journal of Sports Rehabilitation and guest
reviews for the Journal of Athletic Training. He is on the editorial board
of the Sports Section’s North American Journal of Sports Physical
Therapy.
Tab serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of Physical Therapy at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. He has lectured nationally and internationally on shoulder, knee, foot and ankle pathology and has specialized in the construction of orthotics for over 20 years. In 1994, Tab received SPTS’s top award, the Ron Peyton Award. The Sports Physical Therapy Section also honored Tab for his long time support of the Section with the ‘Turner A. Blackburn Lifetime Achievement Award’. Prior to joining
Clemson Sports Medicine, Tab served seven and half years as Executive
Director and Adjunct Professor at the Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine
in New Orleans. Tab is our newest member of the Management Team at CSMR,
acting as Vice President of Corporate Development as well as the Clinic
Director of Sports Plus Physical Therapy in Manchester, Georgia. |
